Overview

MIT’s List Visual Arts Center encourages students, faculty, and visitors to explore challenging contemporary art in galleries and public spaces across campus. The List selected TOKY to capture this intellectually inquisitive philosophy in a new identity and responsive website.

A TYPOGRAPHIC PUZZLE

Inspired by the I.M. Pei-designed building and epic-scale Kenneth Noland piece that sits inside, the logo is a typographic puzzle that resolves into the university’s acronym and museum name.

CAMPUS-WIDE SIGNAGE

Branded exterior signage unites 91 public artworks across MIT’s campus, offering both text and links to audio descriptions of each piece.

TAKING THE ART ONLINE

The new site is loaded with cool features, including the Exhibitions section, which offers a massive, interactive record of everything the List has ever presented. The Connect page aggregates relevant social content, pulling in posts from specific hashtags and the List’s social streams.

EXPLORATION ON ANY DEVICE

The custom-built Public Art Map pulls in basic information about each piece and integrates with the Acoustiguide Audio Tour, allowing visitors to tune into commentary from artists, architects, scholars, and curators.

Feedback

“A museum’s website has become an integral part of the visiting experience. For CAM St. Louis and now for List in Cambridge, Eric and his team have created elegant, intuitive, and brand-driven websites that are rich in content. They are my first go-to designers.”
